Three Sisters

Independent directing work. The text adaptation was written together with Rotterová by Katarína Jungová - her dramaturgical collaborator since Silenced in 2022; Tereza Hladká also worked with Jungová on the dramaturgy.

Instead of provincial Russia in 1901, the action takes place in Slovakia, spanning the years 1945 (liberation and the start of the alliance with the USSR), 1952 (a fabricated political trial), 1970 (normalization) and 1991 (the withdrawal of Soviet troops), and also touches on the present; running through each of these layers is the arrival, presence and departure of an army, mirroring the country’s actual history of occupation. The text was deconstructed: some characters disappeared entirely, others exist only on video (Veršinin’s wife, Fiodor Kulygin) or only as a voice (Čebutykin).

The production premiered in the space of a former civil-defence bunker beneath the DPOH - within raw concrete walls, with the actors so close to the audience that every detail is visible from the front row. Marija Havran’s costumes signal which time period the action is currently in. Created as part of the dramaturgical line “Generation Z”, which gives space to young creators and the themes they live with. Premiered March 2026.

Since autumn 2026 the production has been running in the DPOH repertoire on the theatre’s Main Stage.
